For the next three years, Innovate Indiana’s David Gard will serve a key leadership role within the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities‘ (APLU) Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Prosperity (CICEP).
As CICEP’s secretary, Gard will work closely with CICEP’s incoming chair, University of California at San Diego chancellor Pradeep Khosla, in setting and carrying out CICEP’s agenda. Gard also will serve on both CICEP’s executive committee and its implementation committee — and holds the highest position within CICEP not held by a university chancellor or president.
“David has already been an exemplary leader in our commission. He’s been an inspirational and collegial force, and we’re very much looking forward to his service in this new leadership role.”
— Jim Woodell, APLU assistant vice president for innovation and technology policy and CICEP staff director.
CICEP leads APLU’s nationwide efforts to support economic engagement by universities. Such efforts include serving as a national resource to share best practices in economic development, developing connections and partnerships between APLU member institutions and external partners, and forming strategies to make university economic development activities more publicly visible.
