Regenstrief Institute, Inc., an internationally recognized informatics and healthcare research organization, is dedicated to the improvement of health through research that enhances the quality and cost-effectiveness of healthcare. Established in 1969 by philanthropist Sam Regenstrief on the campus of the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, the Institute is supported by the Regenstrief Foundation and closely affiliated with the IU School of Medicine and the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County, Indiana.
Regenstrief Institute research scientists, including Institute President and CEO, Thomas Inui, M.D, who also serves as Associate Dean for Health Care Research at the IU School of Medicine, and Institute program directors, Christopher Callahan, Bradley Doebbeling, and J. Marc Overhage, form a highly respected cadre of health care researchers linked to one of the largest and most comprehensive medical informatics laboratories in the world.
The Institute receives $2.8 million per year in core support from the Regenstrief Foundation and has an annual budget of approximately $19.5 million generated by Institute investigators, largely derived from federal grants and contracts from the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, national philanthropies, Indianapolis healthcare institutions, and other sources.
