The Pilot Grant Program, offered by the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship in Biotechnology at IU-Bloomington, funds “proof of concept” projects from any discipline that supports research projects that can:
- Be developed with an industry partner
- Serve as the basis to launch a new company
- Be used to strengthen patent applications based on IU-B discoveries.
Project budgets up to $25,000 are considered. Awarded funds can be used to either support research in the principal investigator’s laboratory, or to purchase services from IU’s core facilities or external vendors. To be considered for such a grant, researchers must submit an invention disclosure form with the Indiana University Research and Technology Corp. (IURTC) on or before April 1. Applications are assessed for their scientific merit, potential to enhance commercial development and the potential of new intellectual property creation.
