Officials with Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College applauded recent decisions by Bloomington and Monroe County government to support the Indiana Small Business Development Center’s West Central region.
For several years, IU — through its Innovate Indiana initiative — has provided $10,000 in annual support to the ISBDC, which maintains regional offices in Bloomington and Terre Haute. For the 2014-2015 budget year, the city of Bloomington and Monroe County each will add $10,000 in support as well, while Ivy Tech’s Gayle and Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship will provide free office, meeting and training space.
ISBDC supports “the formation, growth and sustainability” of small businesses in the state and helps Hoosier entrepreneurs “start stronger, grow faster, and work smarter.”
“Combining the resources of local government with academia will give our region’s small businesses the tools for success, which will translate to strengthening our economy and better job opportunities. It is one of the best investments that local government can make,” said Kirk White, assistant vice president for strategic partnerships for IU’s Office of Engagement. White serves as an ISBDC board member and is a former Monroe County commissioner.
