Indiana University students who are U.S. citizens have the opportunity to collaborate with the military to solve real-world national security problems.
The X-Force program from the National Security Innovation Network will engage students with its partners for three to six months. The X-Force Fellowship is a full-time, in-person paid summer fellowship program. Fellows will receive a stipend of around $2,500 per month as well as a budget for travel and materials. Another program, X-Force Remote, is a part-time, remote volunteer opportunity.
The NSIN website says that the top applicants for X-Force “must have demonstrated technical or entrepreneurial experience or expertise. Evidence of past self-directed work is strongly preferred.”
X-Force applications are due March 1. The cohort runs June 1 through August 31, with individual start and end dates negotiated.
The NSIN appointed Mike Dodd as a full-time university program director at IU in December. It is the first such appointment within the Great Lakes region that includes Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. Dodd will work with IU faculty and students and industry stakeholders to foster collaborations and partnerships that help solve Department of Defense problems related to communications, data management and other priorities.
