In November, we celebrate National Entrepreneurship Month. It’s good that we do, too, because entrepreneurs deserve all the support and encouragement they receive. Whether they are women, men or youngsters; whether their work is high-tech, low-tech or no tech; whether they are urban or rural — their focus almost has to be all-encompassing to reach their goals.
What are those goals? A true entrepreneur, at their core, seeks to provide solutions to problems that they have seen or encountered. They want to make things better for others, whether that’s developing a medical device to improve disease assessment and diagnosis, launching a podcast to promote the arts and culture of their hometown, starting a nonprofit to help veterans re-enter the civilian workforce, or providing a low-cost alternative for pet care.
Indiana University celebrates entrepreneurs in several ways. I’m proud that IU Ventures is part of a larger ecosystem that touches not just Bloomington but the entire state. As we and other IU entities engage with and encourage IU-connected entrepreneurs, including faculty, staff, current students and alumni, we are helping to find solutions that improve people’s quality of life, both at work and at home.
