On Monday, March 26, Cmdr. Tim Powers of Naval Support Activity Crane and staff members from Crane’s emergency management, community planning and public affairs offices visited the Indiana University Bloomington campus to discuss expanding the Crane-IU Educational Partnership that was originally signed in 2015.
The delegation held meetings with Bill Brown, executive director of IU Bloomington’s Center for Rural Engagement; Joe Carley, IU director of economic development; Ken Long, IU Bloomington’s director of emergency management; Lt. Col. Todd Burkhardt, professor of military science; Capt. Matthew Heil, assistant professor of aerospace studies; and me.
IU and the Crane military installation are south-central Indiana’s largest employers. Our cooperation leading to research, workforce training, community development and homeland security has never been stronger. We plan to expand our partnership now that we have IU Bloomington’s new Center for Rural Engagement so the communities in our region can better connect with our resources.
