Student entrepreneurs and faculty at IU East recently earned honors in three categories at the Enactus United States National Exposition held May 15-17 in St. Louis.
The IU East Enactus team was one of five teams selected for the AIG “For the Health of It” program, receiving a plaque and $3,500 in seed money for its “Darma” project. Darma is a seat cushion 2 millimeters thick that monitors blood pressure, posture, heart rate, sitting time, respiration and stress levels. It communicates with mobile phones to let users know when to stand up and move around, suggests stretches, breathing exercises and posture advice.
IU East also was named one of 10 finalists for the Sam’s Club “Step Up for Small Business” Program, earning a plaque and $2,000. In addition, IU East’s BOSS (Business Opportunities for Self Starters) program received $3,500 and a trophy for placing second in the CVC Award for Youth Entrepreneurship.
“We’re having the best year in our 10-year history, winning awards beyond our expectations. Working with students is one of the most rewarding things I could ever imagine. I have watched students learn and develop from young, intuitive people to becoming young professionals.”
— Tim Scales, director, Center for Entrepreneurship, IU East School of Business and Economics
