Innovate Indiana officials will host a Thursday meeting in Evansville that brings together economic development leaders in Monroe County with their counterparts in the River City.
Monroe County officials will travel along the new I-69 corridor that links the two cities to tour innovation facilities at the University of Southern Indiana, while Evansville officials brief Monroe County leaders on the economic development tools, organizations and assets at their disposal, said Kirk White, IU’s assistant vice president for strategic partnerships.
“With I-69 now providing a nonstop link between Bloomington and Evansville, it’s time to start looking at how both cities can work with each other to help maximize the commercial potential that I-69 brings to our part of the state,” he said.
There is at least one common tie to both groups, White added. The current president of the Southwest Indiana Chamber, Christy Gillenwater, is a former president of the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce.
