B-Start (Side)(1)B-Start, the pre-accelerator program launched by the Bloomington Economic Development Corp. to encourage technology-based businesses founded by students at Indiana University Bloomington and Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington, has selected nine startup ventures to take part in its inaugural cohort this fall

Supported in part by Innovate Indiana, B-Start competitively selects startups to receive mentorship and coaching sessions throughout the fall, as well as consultations and informational programs. The companies also will compete in a “demo day” for prizes based on various scoring criteria. The selected companies include:

  • SoundsGood, a recipe and health database
  • Engine-us, a touch-screen digital electric guitar sound processor
  • Critique, a peer-to-peer feedback tool for education and e-learning
  • Gravity’s Edge, an online platform for martial arts tricking
  • EconomyLoop, a sortable platform for global economic news
  • SteadyWise, a platform for creating mobile patient engagement apps
  • MyStartupU, a network to connect student entrepreneurs and investors
  • CollegeDeedz, a tasking service for subcontracting college students
  • SwapBeat.co, a social commerce platform for buying and selling instrumentals

Participants will receive a graduation stipend upon completion of the program. Additional sponsors include Cook Group Inc. and the Ivy Tech Gayle & Bill Cook Center for Entrepreneurship.
