Anagin LLC’s pursuit of a less-debilitating treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) continues to attract media attention, as WISH-TV multiplatform journalist Teresa Mackin (Channel 8 in Indianapolis) dropped by the Indiana University Research and Technology Corp. to interview key personnel.
The segment aired Thursday morning (July 30) during WISH’s “Daybreak” morning news program. You can watch Mackin’s report here:
New Anagin CEO Eric J. Messner fielded questions about the company’s present and future goals, while Spin Up manager Joe Trebley discussed the IURTC program that in four years, has helped launch more than two dozen ventures such as Anagin. Project leader and scientist Melissa Haulcomb also demonstrated some of the techniques used in Anagin’s research lab. In separate interviews, Mackin also spoke with Anagin co-founders Dr. Anantha Skekhar and Dr. Yvonne Lai.
Launched in 2013 through the Spin Up program, Anagin aims to develop drugs that block the target mechanism of PTSD without triggering other mechanisms that cause crippling side effects such as agitation, irritability, sexual dysfunction, drowsiness, memory lapses, motor skill problems and addiction.
In 2014, Anagin received a $692,706 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Institutes of Health, $50,000 in matching funds from the state of Indiana and $25,000 as winner of the third annual BioCrossroads New Venture Competition held in conjunction with the 2014 Indiana Life Sciences Summit. Shekhar is a professor of psychiatry, pharmacology and neurobiology at the IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis and director of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute. Lai is a senior scientist with the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at IU Bloomington.
