Eric J. Messner named as first CEO, "last founder" for Spin Up startup Anagin LLC

Posted on July 20, 2015 by Bill W. Hornaday

Messner 2One of Spin Up director Joe Trebley’s goals in helping young companies get off the ground is identifying its “last founder” — an experienced leader with a history of raising capital and managing startups who can take the company to the next level.

Eric J. Messner is just such an executive, having played key roles in the sale of three drug companies since 2005 while attaining product development goals and managing corporate operations. Last week, he began new duties as Anagin LLC’s first chief executive officer.

JOE TREBLEY 3 mugIt is difficult for startups to recruit the kind of top managerial experience that Eric offers. Only the best scientific teams manage to do it. This is a big win for Anagin. The wealth of executive experience that Eric brings to the Anagin team, combined with Anagin’s world-renowned scientific founders, will be a winning combination.”

— Spin Up director Joe Trebley

Founded in 2013 by Dr. Anantha Shekhar of the IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis and Dr. Yvonne Lai of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at IU Bloomington, Anagin is hot on the trail of developing a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that avoids the harmful side effects of traditional therapies. Messner has spent more than 25 years in the pharmaceutical industry, most recently as general manager of sales and marketing for Miami-based OPKO Health’s renal division.
