Final team presentations for five student projects within IUPUI’s Innovation-to-Enterprise Commercialization (ITEC) program will take place Friday (April 24) in Room 3009 of the Business/School of Public and Environmental Affairs Building at 801 W. Michigan St. in Indianapolis.
Created in 2011, ITEC is a student-centered, multidisciplinary, active-learning initiative that that combines research, entrepreneurial and business skills. Students are selected as ITEC Scholars through a competitive process, with ITEC sponsoring 3-5 teams per term. Work starts in the spring semester, with teams assembling a proposal and workplan for their assigned project. At the end of the semester, a final pitch presentation is made, with ITEC program leaders approving teams that will move on to launch their project in the fall semester.
This spring’s ITEC teams include:
- User-Centric Interactive Collaboration Software (UCICS): Naeem Tai, Chris Sergio, Kenny Cook, Kareem Rimawi, James Hill, Chris Rogers and Clayton Nicholas
- JagWaRz Junior – Cyber Security Education for Young Adolescents: Jasmine Herbert, Rushabh Vyas, Connie Justice and Vicky Smith
- Compass Tutoring – Online Tutoring Interface: Kevin Berkopes, Patrick Burton, Josh Ragsdell, Miriah Remy, Kelly Nauert, Levi Hadley and Stephanie Atallah
- Gestchat – A Tool to Support Emotional Communication in Text Messaging: Afarin Pirzadeh, Kaelyn Donnelly, Julie Elbin, Ann Marie May Lin and Xing Yu
- Neighborhood Development Team (a project to address the public problem of payday loans in Central Indiana): Christopher Moeller, Phillip Mitchell and Abigail Parham.
ITEC is sponsored by the the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, through a collaboration between the Center for Research and Learning (CRL), in partnership with IUPUI academic and research units.
