Teams of techno-savvy Hoosiers and Texans are currently locked in an innovative competition — for now in their respective states — as the Indiana vs. Texas Challenge got under way this weekend — as shown in a photo essay produced by The Indianapolis Star.
Organized by the Indy Chamber and TechPoint in partnership with the State of Indiana, these students, faculty, industry professionals, entrepreneurs or talented citizens are taking part in a three-week race to develop applications on behalf of public agencies that will benefit the public-at-large.
In Indiana, that includes an easy-to-use platform for the Indiana Department of Homeland Security that guides Hoosiers affected by natural disasters and emergencies to the proper state agencies — and a more efficient way for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to process nearly two dozen varieties of documents.
The submission deadline is Feb. 23, with state winners receiving a $4,000 prize to be announced March 2. The overall winner of the top innovation from Indiana and Texas will be revealed March 12 and receive an additional $4,000 — not to mention bragging rights over both states.
