What is Google Adwords?
Google Adwords is Google’s own advertising service, which allows businesses to pay to place text ads on search engine results pages for the keywords they want to appear for. Also referred to as Pay-Per-Click (PPC), Adwords is a paid form of SEO that eliminates the long wait for a website to begin to work its way organically up the rankings, which is required when organic SEO techniques are being practiced. Search engine results are immediate, however it does come at an expense and can often be difficult to master.
Google isn’t the only search engine that facilitates paid advertising, Yahoo and Bing also run their own advertising network, called the Yahoo Bing Network.
How does it work?
In simple terms, a Google Adwords campaign is based around keywords. Advertisers bid on certain keywords in order for their clickable ads to appear in Google’s search results. You’ll be asked to select keywords that searchers are likely to use when Googling for your service/product and to create an advert using these keywords and a general description of your company and/or product offering that will appear on the search engine results page (SERP) based on those keywords.
Every time someone clicks on your advert link, Google will charge you. Rival companies can bid for the same search term, and when there are a lot of businesses competing for the same keywords, the cost per click for that keyword will increase. Meaning that you’ll need to larger amounts of money to stand a chance at being shown in the SERP. Obviously the more you pay-per-click (PPC) the more likely your ad will appear in the search results.
Although this might sound relatively easy, there is definitely an art to creating a successful Google Adwords campaign and it can be quite difficult to master. Especially if you’re competing against large companies or for search terms that have a high amount of volume, because of this reason, many people look to hire an SEO agency to devise and manager their Google Adwords campaign. Hiring an SEO company in Australia is popular for Google Adwords campaigns, as running a poor or underperforming Adwords campaign can be costly, and it’s a great way to ensure you’re targeting the right keywords and actually reaching your target market.
