Presented a conference poster titled “The Archives as a Muse: Incorporating Primary Sources into the Student Works of Undergraduate Composers” on November 4th at the Music Library Association Midwest Chapter’s 82nd Annual Meeting in Lexington, Kentucky.

Received a job offer from the United States Naval Academy to be the STEM Librarian beginning in December of 2023.
Dhakir Mubarak Abdullah (MLS/Ph.D. Candidate in AAADS)
Dhakir’s proposal for his project, “Forgotten Visionary: A Digital Library on Dr. Herman C. Hudson and the Founding of the Black Studies Department at Indiana University Bloomington” was selected for presentation at the 48th annual National Council for Black Studies Conference, it was also accepted for presentation at the 12th National Conference of African American Librarians Conference, as well as the LOEX 2024 Conference (for LOEX its a poster presentation). Ampersand: An American Studies journal has agreed to publish Dhakir’s Digital Library/Exhibition on Herman Hudson in their March 2024 issue. He received the Thomas Krasean Student Scholarship for a Society of Indiana Archivist Workshop in Fall of 2023 from the Society of Indiana Archivists as well as a Course Assistantship from the History Department for Spring 2024.
Alexandra Wingate (Ph.D. in Information Science)
Alex won a £4000 grant from the Willison Charitable Trust to fund her dissertation research this summer. This past summer Alex presented a paper at the virtual SHARP book history conference and a poster at DH2023 in Austria. This fall she presented a poster at ASIS&T about historical legal deposit, and traveled to Seville, Spain to present a paper about the use of GIS in book history.
Ece Gumusel (Ph.D. in Information Science)
Ece was awarded the Luddy Outstanding Award from the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering in July 2023.
She was selected for the Student Spotlight session at the 38th Annual NASIG Conference at Pittsburgh, PA and presented her work “Exploring Privacy and Security Tool Adoption among LGBTQ+ Professionals in Information Science” in May 2023. For this work, Ece also received the James D. Fielding Student Advocacy & Leadership Award $2,018.00 at Indiana University Bloomington in August 2023. She also extended this work and presented it at Fall 2023 Wednesday Noon Digital Scholarship Series from the IU Libraries in October 2023.
Ece and James Henry Smith held a workshop called “The Value of Data and Digital Privacy” at Scholar’s Commons at IU Libraries in October 2023.
She has been serving as the representative for the Privacy Team at the Office of the Provost Generative AI Center of Expertise at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign since October 2023.
Ece and Mendi Drayton (UIUC) presented “Privacy Implications in AI” at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in November 2023.
Matthew Francisco, Rasika Muralidharan, and Ece presented the work “Future Careers: A Large Language Collaborative Tool for Scaffolding Problem Discovery and Research Planning for Transitioning Students” at Indiana University Bloomington FACET and received FACET Honorarium Award $1,000.00 in December 2023.
Ece successfully completed her coursework and defended her qualifying paper “A Systematic Literature Review: User Privacy Concerns in Conversational Chatbots” in December 2023. She appreciates her chair Howard Rosenbaum (ILS) and committee members Pnina Fichman (ILS) and Xiaojing Liao (CS) for their valuable insights and help.
She moderated a panel titled “Balancing AI Innovation and Privacy” with Christopher Lee (MITRE) and Michael Curtin (UIUC) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Privacy Everywhere Conference in January 2024.
She is currently engaging in collaborative efforts on numerous projects spanning various institutions within the domains of social informatics, usable privacy, and HCI and working on her dissertation proposal on user privacy dynamics in conversational chatbots.

Since participating in a research and development incubator at IDAH, Ezra has been working with Dr. Heather Akou to develop the online museum uniformhistories.us.
