The goal of EDUC-K 205 is to provide students with foundational knowledge about the history of disabilities generally and special education in particular. K205 is an issues course. As such, we will engage in the discussion of controversial topics in the education and treatment of individuals with exceptionalities (i.e., disabilities and gifts and talents). Issues will be discussed within the context of legal, political, medical, educational, and ethical considerations. Course material will be relevant for undergraduate students pursuing professions within fields such as education, social work, therapy, and psychology.
