This is an exciting time for the study of genetics. Modern sequencers allow us to sequence >1 trillion base pairs of DNA per day and new genome-engineering tools allow us to edit DNA inside living cells with unprecedented accuracy and ease. In this course, we will examine how such advances are revolutionizing our understanding of genetics, epigenetics, gene regulation, and the treatment of disease, as well as some of the ethical ramifications of these newfound possibilities. Our overarching goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of how our genetic information is transmitted, packaged, expressed, and modified.
