CLASS NOTES: Prerequisites – ECON-E 370 or ECON-S 370; and MATH-M 119 or equivalent
This course introduces students to the techniques economists employ to estimate marginal effects. Marginal effects refer to how one variable changes when another variable changes. How do wages change with an additional year of schooling? How much less likely is someone to be incarcerated as an adult if they were enrolled in a preschool program? Does the legalization of recreational marijuana use affect violent crime rates? What is the size of the gender wage gap? Statistical inference and hypothesis testing is also covered. Students demonstrate their new skills by completing a small empirical project on a research question of their choosing.
