The Nikolov Lab is looking for an hourly lab assistant to help with basic lab maintenance and plant care ($16-$20/hour depending on the level of expertise, 10-15 hours/week). No previous lab or plant care experience is required. Includes possibility to get involved in research projects if interested.
JOB POSTING DETAILS
Research in the Nikolov Lab focuses on the evolution and development of flowers. Plant cultivation is fundamental to all of our research projects. Duties on a regular basis include:
-Sowing seeds and transplanting seedlings on soil
-Collecting plant tissue for DNA, RNA and protein extraction
-Plant care (watering, pest control)
-Collecting and organizing seeds
-Washing and autoclaving glassware
-Preparing solutions and applying various treatments to plants
-Maintaining a record of greenhouse activities
-Collaborating with the graduate students and postdocs on specific research projects
This position is open to any student who would like a paid position working in a research lab and it is a great opportunity for people interested in genetics, development and plant biology. We require excellent attention to detail, accountability, collaborative attitude, good communication skills (including checking/replying to emails daily) and ability to work independently (after initial training). Availability to join the lab for several years is preferred, as is availability throughout the summer. The lab will work around your class and exam schedule as well as holidays.
