The Michaels lab has two openings for undergraduate researchers (https://biology.indiana.edu/about/faculty/michaels-scott.html). Our laboratory studies gene regulation and epigenetics, primarily in the model plant Arabidopsis. We are looking for students that are interested in multi-semester research experiences, beginning with learning basic techniques in molecular biology (e.g., recombinant DNA technology, genotyping using molecular markers, and genome engineering using CRISPR/Cas9) and culminating with an independent research project. The opportunity exists for this work to be taken for BIOL-X 490 (Independent Study) credit. No previous lab experience is required; however, a basic understanding of genetics and molecular biology is desirable. If interested, please send a c.v., transcript (unofficial is fine), and a brief statement of your career goals to michaels@indiana.edu. Please also indicate when during a typical week you would be available for lab work (ideally, students should have 2 or more blocks of >2 hours per week).
