SPH-V 422, Environmental Health Research & Interventions in India, 3 credits
Course description: SPH-V 422 will provide students with exposure to important environmental health challenges that developing countries are encountering in today’s world.
Optional study tour: The tour will take place during spring break (March 10-17, 2019). Students will visit multiple environmental health intervention projects in New Delhi to study sanitation problems, waste management, water security, public health nutrition, agriculture, and climate change. The tour will be facilitated by the IU India Gateway Office along with several local development partners such as Sehgal Foundation, Aga Khan Trust, SEEDS, Amity University, and Ambedkar University. Students will also be led on supplementary cultural activities around India to give them greater insight to Indian culture. An excursion to the iconic Taj Mahal will be included in the student’s cultural experience.
Program Instructor: Assistant Professor Khalid Khan, Dr.P.H., M.E.M. from the School of Public Health- Bloomington’s Department of Environmental Health will lead the program. He has been conducting training, intervention, and research in the South Asian region for more than a decade in the areas of Environmental Health Interventions, Vulnerable Populations and Public Health, and Climate Change.
Program Cost (Estimated): $2,950 (including airfare)

Optional study tour: students who want to join the study tour to India must apply online at iabroad.iu.edu by 26 October. Students selected for the study tour will be notified by 9 November.
