The Indiana University Herbarium is a research museum with 156,000 dried plant specimens from Indiana and around the world.
During 2018-19, we will complete the final phase of a 5-year project to photograph and record the collection information for all the specimens.
Most of the work is done and can be seen on our data portal (http://midwestherbaria.org).
The final task is to ‘georeference’ the collection localities, which involves estimating the longitude and latitude based on the description of the collecting site for the remaining 110,000 specimens. There are great online tools to help with this task, but the essential requirements are good map and typing skills.
Curatorial Assistants need to work a minimum of 8-10 hours per week (but the hours are flexible), and the pay is $10.15/hour.
Please contact Dr. Eric Knox (eknox@indiana.edu) to learn more about this employment opportunity.
