Hello! Since our normal programming is on standby while we social distance, I have been helping out with the youth group. Right now, they are planning Youth Sunday where the youth group does the service. Thankfully, we have a video editing wizard that can paste all the kids’ parts together. Technical difficulties are anticipated but have not yet arisen. I am also workshopping a bible verse pen pal letter exchange 🙂
Since Covid19 has limited our abilities to convene together and also the college students that I serve have had drastic changes to their day to day lives, my position has become more of a support than a ministry leader. I have been reaching out and providing links to services for my students as well as assisting with the youth group as much as I can. I am apart of the youth group zoom calls every Sunday and have been helping deliver ministry materials to families with children. Even though this isn’t what my position was supposed to be, I believe this is important in this time of crisis. I have begun compiling different lessons that lean more on motivation and perseverance rather than lessons that encourage challenging self -discovery.
The youth group has been focusing on self-care throughout February so I decided to combine what they were learning with the college ministry’s eco-conscious goals for this semester. We came together to create salt scrubs from recipes on Pinterest. We talked about the popularity of “We are the salt of the Earth” in Christian discipline while questioning why more environmental sustainability programming isn’t present in mainstream teachings. We also talked about how we could share our salt by sending people the recipes or through looking for other scriptures that talk about our relationship with the Earth.
