Since 2006, the annual National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention and Expo has taken place in downtown Indianapolis. On October 23-26, the 97th edition of the convention will return to the Indiana Convention Center, and the IU Indianapolis department of tourism, event, and sport management will be in the thick of the sea of blue and gold.
Students from across the Department of Tourism, Event, and Sport Management will be participating in a variety of capacities. Since 2016, many of our first-year students will be volunteering to lead tours around central Indiana, greeting visitors in local hotels, performing a community service project in the greater Indianapolis area, serving as Collegiate Convention Assistants, or as interns for the national convention working for National FFA.
The National FFA Convention and Expo is the largest youth convention in the country and will be one of the top five conventions Indianapolis will host this year. Convention attendees will occupy over 36,000 sleeping rooms in hotels and will contribute to over $36 million in economic impact to the city.
Our students have been volunteering with the convention since it came back to Indianapolis in 2016.
