Shortly after delivering a patient to an understaffed hospital, a police officer experiences strange and violent occurrences seemingly linked to a group of mysterious hooded figures. Part Lovecraft, part Carpenter, part Fulci, part Romero, The Void wears its influences on its sleeve while simultaneously moving past homage into a nightmare construction of the unknowability — and inescapability — of evil.
When this Canadian indie horror came out several years ago, it took the late-night movie world by storm and hasn’t let up yet. Written and directed by Steven Kostanski (Psycho Goreman) and Jeremy Gillespie, The Void emerged from the men’s work with Guillermo del Toro and 2016’s Suicide Squad, as explained in their interview with Exclaim, and has won acclaim from the likes of the Guardian, Time Out, and the Hollywood Reporter. Check it out at IU Cinema this Friday, October 27!
“Delivers dramatic beats; manic, WTF monster madness; and enough gore to paint an entire hospital red.” — Brent McKnight, The Last Thing I See
The Void will be screened at IU Cinema on October 27 as part of the Friday Night Frights series.
