Set in France in 1889, The Taste of Things follows the life of Dodin Bouffant (Benoît Magimel) as a chef living with his personal cook and lover Eugénie (Juliette Binoche). They share a long history of gastronomy and love, but Eugénie refuses to marry Dodin, so the food lover decides to do something he has never done before: cook for her.
Winner of Best Director at Cannes Film Festival, The Taste of Things stars real-life exes Benoît Magimel and Juliette Binoche, who delved into their onscreen and offscreen dynamic with the Los Angeles Times and which director Trần Anh Hùng discussed with the YouTube channel HeyUGuys. Hùng also spoke with Film at Lincoln Center about the movie and explained its depiction of food and cooking with NPR’s All Things Considered. Chef Pierre Gagnaire, who consulted on the film, further dove into the film’s culinary delights with Variety and Eater.
