Of all the industries in all the world, there are few (if any) that mirror the importance and power of education. After all, this is the industry that is responsible for shaping the minds and leaders of the future, as well as anyone who wants to further their experiences with education at any point throughout their life. Thanks to education, avid learners around the globe find themselves in the position of bettering themselves in just about every possible aspect. Academics is all about assisting individuals with the lessons and tools that ultimately help to further broaden the intellectual and academic horizons of individuals, but it also often (if not always) ends up being a major provider in lessons in personal growth as well.
Now, education is evolving yet again, with the introduction and ongoing advancements in modern learning. Digitalisation and technological advancement have become such key fundamentals in this modern approach to education, that they are positively and entirely crucial to education not only now, but going forward. While it was not always this way, it is interesting to note that this is the way that it is now, and the way that it will always be going forward. Like it or not, education has been profoundly revolutionised under the weight of technological advancement – and there is more where that came from.
Technological advancement impacts education
Today, online education is prominent a facet of the global education industry as traditional learning. When first introduced as a niche concept, online education was initially believed to be a passing trend by many. However, as time went on, it became exceedingly obvious that online education is here to stay. The sheer convenience and efficiency of online learning, even in its early days, proved that this was an innovation that was as useful as it was successful. In the years since its initial implementation, online education has proven its value time and again, and (thankfully) there appears to be no end in sight. But what are the key differences between traditional education and online education?
Traditional education versus online learning
First and foremost, it is important to understand that online education is not designed to take over from traditional education, but rather to work alongside it to form a stronger foundation for the future of academics on the global scale. While traditional education thrives on structure and students being in a single environment, learning a sole approach to everything, online education is more about giving students the tools to learn with the freedom to choose practically every aspect of their education experience. From campus (or lack thereof) to learning materials, and everything in between, online learning is all about giving students the tools to choose for themselves, and flourish in the process.
The only difference that really matters
At the end of the day, traditional learning and online education both have their strengths. Neither one is better than the other, and the only difference that holds any relevance at all, the only difference between the two that really matters, is that they simply embody different environmental atmospheres. Regardless of if a student opts to learn the traditional way, or via online education, they still have the power to do it all. Whether it is deciding, “where should I write my book review today?”, or opting to learn in an environment with other like-minded individuals, or entirely on their own terms, modern (and future) students have all the power.
