Not everyone gets an education to become an engineer or accountant. Instead, some opt for military academies, learning how to work with military technology, intelligence, and on the field. #1 – United States Naval Academy
The United States Naval Academy, or USNA for short, was established back in 1845. It educates students on how to become a part of the U.S Navy and Marine Corps. The campus is located in Annapolis, Maryland which is a short distance from Washington, D.C. A member of congress must endorse a student for them to get accepted. Approximately 1,300 new recruits enter every year, with 1,000 of them reaching graduation.
#2 – Royal Air Force College
Located in Sleaford, United Kingdom, the RAF College trains students to fly in the British Air Force. It was founded in 1915 as the Royal Navy. During World War I, the college served as a aviation training centre. By 1919, they were officially the world’s first air academy. Prince Charles and Prince William are some notable names of previous graduates.
#3 – United States Military Academy
Also known as West Point, the United States Military Academy is one of the most recognized military schools globally. President Thomas Jefferson directed the establishment during his presidency in 1801. Students must be nominated by US congress to get accepted. During enrolment, students build academic, athletic, and leadership skills. While there is no tuition, graduates are required to begin active duty immediately. Training takes a total of 4 years to complete. The academy is located near the Hudson River in West Point, New York, hence the nick name.
#4 – Saint-Cyr
Saint-Cyr is a special military school located in Coetquidan, France. Students undergo intense training to graduate with an M.S or M.A as official commissioned officers. Training takes 3 years to complete and the average cadet is 21 years old. Napoleon Bonaparte founded the school in 1803 and its graduates have fought in almost have major European conflict. Over 65,000 cadets have been trained with over 2,000 over them being international students. The academy also has a link with the previous school, West Point. Charles De Gaulle, a famous French president, was one of the many graduates.
#5 – National Defense Academy of Japan
The National Defense Academy of Japan was founded in 1953. They offer training and a degree for students that wish to be officers for the Japan Self-Defense Force. The students are paid a salary which makes the NDA stand out among other academies on this list. After they have graduated, students can continue training at an Officer Candidate School. There is also the option of obtaining a master’s or doctoral degree through the academy. During the 1980’s, Condoleeza Rice even visited as a professor. Graduates have included astronauts and high ranking government officials.
