IU Northwest and IU South Bend jointly led a study abroad in China trip on May 15-28, 2025. The trip consisted of 16 students from three IU campuses (IUN, IUSB, and IUK) whose majors ranged from biology and nursing to art history. The trip was jointly administered by the leadership of IUN and IUSB, and sponsored and supervised by the International Programs Office at IUSB.
We visited five Chinese cities: Beijing, Changchun, Xi’an, Suzhou, and Shanghai. We were invited to visit two university campuses: Jilin University in Changchun and Xi’an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, and had scholarly exchanges with students from both universities. This was a meaningful experience for all who participated, as reflected in the websites created by trip participants, which are listed below.
This is the second year IUN and IUSB have jointly led study abroad in China trips. These short-term trips, ranging from 9 to 14 days, appeal to the needs of students who want the study abroad experience but cannot take longer study-abroad trips. The trips were open to students from all IU campuses.

Students who took part in the 2025 study abroad program in China were required to enroll in two Summer I courses associated with the trip:
