Drs. Angela P. Murillo, Andrea Copeland, and Ayoung Yoon, along with Associate Faculty Lydia Spotts and Media Arts and Science Lecturer Zeb Woods recently published an article in the International Journal of Digital Curation. The article entitled “Complexities of Digital Preservation in a Virtual Reality Environment, the Case of Virtual Bethel” examines the digital preservation needs of virtual reality environments through exploring the digital preservation challenges of the Virtual Bethel. The Virtual Bethel is a collaboration involving digital archiving and a 3-D re-creation of the Bethel AME Church, a building near the IUPUI campus.

Dr. Kyle M. L. Jones publishes article in top education journal on learning analytics!
Assistant Professor Kyle M. L. Jones recently published an article in Learning, Media and Technology with Chase McCoy, a doctoral student in IU-Bloomington’s Information and Library Science program. The article, which is entitled “Reconsidering data in learning analytics: Opportunities for critical research” develop a model using documentation studies to study data ethics and other sociotechnical issues related to educational data mining and learning analytics practices. Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) Program Assistant
20 hr/wk position
Responsible to the LPC Community Facilitator (Educopia’s Scholarly Communications Program Leader) and the LPC Board
About the Library Publishing Coalition: The LPC has over 80 member libraries, a slate of very active standing committees and working groups, a number of outreach programs, a growing list of regularly updated resources (including the Library Publishing Directory and the Library Publishing Bibliography), and a growing annual conference (the Library Publishing Forum). LPC is a community-driven organization, and much of the organization’s work is undertaken by community members, but Educopia Institute staff provide administrative support, strategic leadership, and community facilitation.
Job Purpose: Working remotely as part of Educopia’s virtual office environment, the Program Assistant delivers administrative and program support for the Library Publishing Coalition.
Responsibilities Include:
- Membership support: coordinating new member onboarding processes and routine member communications
- Communications support: drafting routine communications, proofreading, and updating content on LPC’s WordPress-based website
- Event planning support: assisting with logistical and program planning processes for the Library Publishing Forum as part of a team that includes the Community Facilitator, other Educopia staff, and LPC community members
- Administrative support: helping to maintain and update LPC’s documentation and to implement routine administrative procedures
- General program support: assisting the Community Facilitator and LPC’s Board in advancing the organization’s goals through a broad portfolio of projects and programs
- Research support: providing administrative and research support for the Community Facilitator as needed on Educopia Research projects originating in the Library Publishing Coalition
Indiana State Library is now hiring for a librarian position in the Genealogy Division
Librarian 1 – Genealogy
The Indiana State Library is currently seeking a Librarian 1 for the Genealogy Department.
The Librarian 1 will operate independently at a senior subject specialist level providing advanced research expertise within the Genealogy Collection. This position also serves as the digital coordinator to ensure online access to family Bible records, photographs, mortality schedules, pamphlets, and other documents from the Genealogy Collection.
A day in the life:
- Responds to in-person, telephone, e-mail, and chat reference questions while staffing Division’s reference
- Participates in acquisition, processing, preservation, digitization, promotion, and use of the Genealogy Division’s resources and services.
- Contributes to the development, management, and promotion of digital resources for the Genealogy Division.
- Provides training to staff and volunteers on special projects.
- Guides patrons in use of library’s collections by recommending materials and resources appropriate to their information needs, explaining library policies, and assisting with computers and library equipment.
- Understands and promotes the mission of the Indiana State Library by highlighting library resources and services by giving building tours, participating in outreach activities, and planning programs and exhibits.
- Participates in professional development activities by attending meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Creates pathfinders and bibliographic aids in the use of the collections.
- Makes a concentrated effort to keep the collection clean and orderly.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we are looking for:
- Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an accredited institution plus one (1) year full-time professional experience as a Librarian.
- Eligible to be certified by the Indiana Library and Historical Board as a Librarian 3 or above before granting of permanent status.
- Experience working with collection management systems such as CONTENTdm
- General knowledge of all collections and resources within the library’s collections
- Experience working in a special collections and/or digital collections environment
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations and training and coordinate tours and exhibits for the promotion of the Indiana State Library to federal, state and local officials, economic development professionals, business owners, historians, researchers, special population, state universities and other residents of the state and participate in meetings to train users in informational retrieval resources
- Expertise in the use of electronic databases and library automation software
- Ability to communicate effectively, written or orally, for a variety of audiences
- Excellent customer service
