The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is pleased to announce we are looking for creative and curious individuals to join our expanding team as an EVPL Location Experience Manager or as our newly created Maker Librarian. We are seeking individuals who will become actively involved in their work as a curious and innovative individuals, while being helpful and professional librarians when supporting EVPL team members and our library users.
The EVPL Location Experience Manager (two openings) will be an experienced professional and role model to all who work within the library. They will understand that their ultimate goal to provide library users a great experience and that it may be difficult at times; however, the individual will relentlessly strive to meet the strategic goals of the library. They will achieve this through aligning customer experience with communications, programming, outreach, engagement, and partnerships that exemplify the Library’s mission, vision, and core values. As they direct their location’s managers and supervisors, they will motivate them to provide a customer centric experience through guidance, leadership, and management of the experience team, and other related work.
Candidates need to have a Master’s degree from an ALA accredited school of library or information science, or Master’s in Public Administration; coursework in leadership/management, or related field and considerable experience working in a leadership and customer experience/success role. Experience with an urban multiple branch library system preferred, or equivalent combination or education and experience.
The Maker Librarian will be active and involved with planning, developing, and maintaining EVPL Maker Central and supporting maker-based efforts system-wide. Our librarians’ sense of community and community activism leads them to attend meetings of partner organizations, actively participate in community events, and provide support and knowledge to all of their partners. Their sense of wonder and curiosity propels them to explore and experiment with events, exhibits, and diverse ways of connecting people to ideas, information, and each other both in the library and community. Our librarians advocate for a library that is open to all. They recognize that library users and all people are human and can be challenging at times, but they manage these interactions with professionalism and demonstrate patience. Our librarians work at any/all points of service, though they generally will do their work in an area that best suits their talents and aptitudes. As librarians, they support the work of EVPL and any specific subject matter areas as identified or assigned, based upon present and future community needs, resources, staff expertise, and innovative practices related to a subject area and/or library and information science.
Candidates should have a Master’s degree from a school of library and/or information science program accredited by the American Library Association, and moderate experience working in a library and/or within the area of practice assigned. If the candidate has related education and experience, the Library may consider the individual for the position if they commit to obtaining their Master’s degree as described within three years of starting their work at EVPL.
