Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values, honoring the legacy of the founding congregation, promoting unity in diversity, and integrating the Catholic Franciscan intellectual traditions in courses, programs, and services.
- In consultation with campus stakeholders, establish and document collection parameters of Marian University Archives. Stakeholders include Marian faculty, administrators, departmental partners such as Alumni Engagement and Campus Ministry, and the Sisters of St. Francis (Marian’s founding order).
- With support from PALNI, (Private Academic Library Network of Indiana) create, maintain, and update an instance of ArchivesSpace to make holdings discoverable online.
- Provide research assistance and access to archival materials to students, faculty, staff, administration, external researchers, and the general public.
- Using recommendations from a previous archives assessment, update and maintain the physical archives of Marian University. Monitor conditions in the Archives. Work with the Library Director to acquire necessary supplies to preserve archival materials.
- Develop a plan for systematic collection of future archival materials.
Required Qualifications:

- Master’s Degree in Archival Science, Library Science, or related field, or a Bachelor’s Degree and significant experience in archival/museum or special collections
- A minimum of one year experience processing archival collection, digitization, and metadata structure, writing finding aids.
- Professional archival and/or records management experience.
- Experience working with items in need of special handling and conservation.
- An understanding of official records management practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A commitment to user-oriented archival services.
- Understanding of copyright and rights management issues.
