LIS has created a study-abroad program with graduate students in mind (although undergraduates participate, too)! It takes place during a two-week period in Helsinki, Finland: May 16-30, 2023.
The program actually starts in spring semester because you take a course (S531 Information Structures for the Web) where you collaborate with students from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences who work with you in the Canvas course. There is no pre-requisite other than S500 and S507, by the way. The course is still online and asynchronous, but you also have the opportunity to do real-time audio or video meetings with your peers in Finland.
You can even take S531 with no intention of going abroad, just to have the international collaboration experience. If you wish to travel to Finland in May, however, you also sign up for S604 Global Digital Services in the spring semester. This is the course that awards you the additional three credits for the study abroad, most of which is completed during the stay in Finland.

In brief, the main class work is done via S531 where we do collaborative work with our Haaga-Helia partners, creating web pages. In late May, we travel to meet them in Finland (they are still in session), supplemented by field trips and site visits relevant to the class as well as to Finnish culture in general (visits to historic sites, museums, industries, and cultural events).
