The Department of Library and Information Science at IUPUI seeks candidates for graduate hourly employees to support DLIS faculty (Dr. Soo Hyeon Kim). Dr. Kim conducts qualitative research in informal learning settings to support family STEM learning and making at rural libraries.
This position does not require the hourly employee student to be situated at either IUPUI or IUB campus. All communications will be done via web conferencing applications and the work can be done at any location of student’s preference with the exception that some qualitative data analysis would need to strictly follow the IRB requirements that are specific to each study.
Anyone looking for an hourly employee position interested in supporting with qualitative data analysis should apply! It will be a wage payroll position, working for upto 10 hours per week ($12.9/hour). The position is NOT a Student Academic Appointment with student health insurance, fee remission, and payroll stipend. The position can begin as early as Oct 1, 2021. This is a fixed-term appointment for one semester from date of hire with strong possibility of re-funding given that the quality of the work produced by the hourly employee student meets the following standards: 1) all work is completed in timely manner, 2) forms and required paperwork are completed on time with minimal errors, 3) does not require constant supervision.
The main duties include literature review, web-based search, transcribing, creating annotated bibliography, preparing interview protocol, curriculum development, qualitative data analysis, and project management. The duties may also include ordering supplies and equipment, data preparation, and developing appropriate participant databases.
The successful candidate should also have strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn additional computer skills related to data management, preparation, and analysis. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Applications must be willing to meet via web conferencing applications (e.g., Zoom, Skype). Prior teaching experiences in either formal or informal settings and qualitative or quantitative research are preferred, but not required.
Minimum qualification
• Previous experience in research
• Completed a research course (e.g., S506)
• Previous experience with literature review using citation management tools (e.g., Mendeley, Zotero)
Preferred qualification
• Previous experience with qualitative data analysis tools (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti)
• Previous experience with transcribing of interview data or video-based data
