Nichelle M. Hayes MPA, MLS began developing and leading the Center for Black Literature & Culture (CBLC) in 2017 at Central, Indianapolis Public Library. The CLBC is a 3rd Place for the community to gather formally and informally. The space serves as both windows and mirrors for the community. The CBLC encompasses a collection (physical & digital), programs and exhibits. The CBLC seeks to educate and inspire with a special focus on individuals from Indiana as well as the broader African Diaspora. www.indypl.org/cblc
Hayes graduated from Indiana University – School of Library & Information Science (SLIS) with her MLS.
Hayes currently serves on a number of community boards. Some of them are; Indiana Black Librarians Network (IBLN) as Immediate Past-President. Black Caucus of ALA (BCALA) Vice-President. Hayes is a member of Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) (The Founders of Black History Month), Indiana African American Genealogy Group (IAAGG) (President & President-Elect from 2001 – 2006). She is also Assistant Secretary of the Greater Indianapolis NAACP branch.
Hayes first joined BCALA in 2011 while she was in library school, Board Member 2018 – 2020. Vice-President 2020 – Present. Member of Indiana Black Librarians Network (IBLN), Affiliate of BCALA, since 2011. IBLN Treasurer 2016 – 2018, President 2018 – 2020.
Hayes is a Lifetime Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. a Public Service Organization. She is currently active in the Indianapolis Alumnae Chapter.

Hayes is an alum (3rd Co-hort) of the Indiana Librarians Leading in Diversity Fellowship Program (I-LLID). Without the I-LLID program Hayes might not have been fortunate enough to join the profession and follow her passion of Black literature and Information dissemination.
In her spare time she’s a genealogist, community leader and volunteer. She is a member of New Mission Missionary Baptist Church. She is married to Rob B. Davis and has two children Alea (A-Lee-A) & Shai ( SHAY). Her parents are Mrs. Sylvia Cleveland Hayes and the late Mr. Ronzo L. Hayes.
