For those of you who are progressing through the program, we want to send a reminder of the upcoming ePortfolio deadlines and what is expected. When students start their second year in the program, you should receive an email from Angie Harmon (avincibo@iu.edu) informing you that this is your semester to submit your Program Goals Essay, along with scheduling an Advising Conference with your advisor to discuss your Program Goals Essay. This is also a perfect opportunity to talk with your advisor about your experience in the program, and your overall goals. You may want to think of questions like these: are you thinking of switching specializations? Do you have questions about what courses to take? Feedback from courses you have taken so far?
Below you will see the due dates for each task, and a short description. Please note, if you are up to turn in the Program Goals Essay and have your Advising Conference but do not feel ready to do so, please contact your advisor and let them know.
If you think you are starting your second year in the program and should have received an email but did not, please email Angie Harmon avincibo@iu.edu.
Date for submission for your full Early ePortfolio: October 31, 2020
Reminder your Baseline Essay was written and submitted in LIS S500. You will need to upload your Baseline Essay to your Early ePortfolio in Canvas by placing it in the Baseline Essay AY20-21 assignment portal.
The other essay completed for the Early ePortfolio is the Program Goals Essay. Please follow the directions for self-selecting your coursework artifacts to support your essay statements about your academic progress in the MLIS program. For the second portion of the essay, please write to the prompts which should also be included in the essay. There are word limit suggestions, but the important thing is to complete the process. Upload your Program Goals Essay and all the artifacts at the same time to the Program Goals AY20-21 assignment portal.
Work on and submit your Early ePortfolio during the semester, then contact your advisor by October 31, 2020 to schedule an Advising Conference to discuss your progress.
Date for scheduling the Advising Conference: by October 31, 2020
Date for completing the Advising Conference: December 13, 2020
After you meet with your advisor, you will be asked to complete a survey located in the Early ePortfolio site. It is highly recommended you complete this survey within 24 hours of meeting with your advisor. The hard deadline for this survey is December 14, 2020.
Completion of your Early ePortfolio is a requirement for the MLIS graduate program. If this is not completed by the deadlines, we will place an advising hold on your account until it is completed. If there are circumstances that arise in which you are unable to complete the requirement during this timeframe, please reach out to your advisor ASAP.

I am confused. I thought I had already submitted my baseline essay, program goals essay and artifacts. Do you not have them? Do I need to submit them over again? I have also already met with my advisor and completed the survey. Do you not have a record of this? I thought the deadline for doing these things was past already. Are the October and December deadlines for something different? Please advise!
