Biweekly salary: $1,858.04-$2,601.23 (DOE)
Hours: 40 hours per week (Exempt) (Schedule will vary, some nights and weekends are mandatory)
Location(s): Main – 300 S. Second St., Elkhart, IN 46516
Supervision: Assistant Director of Public Services
The Department Head – MLS – Reference oversees the effective and efficient operation of the Reference Department and directly supervises the staff therein. The Department Head – MLS also serves as a Librarian regularly responding to inquiries and providing exceptional customer service by selecting, locating and using library materials, as well as, electronic resources. Other responsibilities include the fiscally-responsible management of the collection development budget, overseeing patron resources and services, and the personnel management of the Reference departmental staff, which includes five (5) librarians and three (3) clerks.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university and the appropriate Indiana Public Library Certification or the ability to obtain it within six (6) months of hire. A minimum of three (3) years professional (public preferred) library experience and one (1) year professional (public preferred) library supervisory experience is required. An inquisitive mind, sense of humor and excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must. Conversational Spanish language skills are a plus.
