The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applications from collaborative and innovative candidates for the position of Scholarly Communication Librarian, a tenure-stream position in the University Libraries’ Department of Open and Digital Scholarship Services. The Scholarly Communication Librarian provides leadership in advancing scholarly communication programs that align with library and university priorities and the campus-wide Open Access (OA) policy. This position provides strategic direction for and promotion of CU Scholar, the University’s institutional repository (IR), and actively collaborates with library and campus colleagues on efforts to increase and enhance open content. The Scholarly Communication Librarian conducts outreach efforts and liaises with subject librarians, working groups, and campus partners in order to increase the accessibility and visibility of campus scholarship and to promote an institutional culture that values and rewards openness. The ideal candidate will lead efforts to develop and expand initiatives that provide open and sustainable access to CU Boulder research and will provide expertise on OA, copyright, author rights, and ongoing developments and trends in scholarly communication. - Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited library program.
- Experience and/or coursework in scholarly communication issues, including OA policies, OA funds, OA repositories, author rights, and copyright.
- Familiarity with technologies, tools, initiatives, and organizations involved in openly disseminating research and scholarship.
- Awareness of ongoing developments and trends in scholarly communication.
- Commitment to the value of open and sustainable access to research and scholarship.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and flexibility to carry out project-based work, both independently and collaboratively.
- Potential for research, scholarly work, and professional service.
Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy:
- One year of relevant experience in an academic or research library.
- Demonstrated expertise in scholarly communication issues, including OA, author rights, copyright, and/or relevant technologies/tools.
- Experience developing and/or implementing policies related to OA, digital repositories, copyright, and other relevant areas.
- Experience communicating and conducting outreach about scholarly communication issues to a variety of stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating across units/departments in an academic environment.
- Demonstrated success leading teams.
- Demonstrated success managing and completing projects.
Appointment and Salary:
Successful candidates will be appointed as full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty members. Depending on professional experience, appointment will be at the assistant professor or senior instructor level. The minimum starting salary is $50,500. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA-CREF administered retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.
