Tips for Keeping Your Car Safe When It is in Long-Term Parking at the Airport

Posted on 26th June 2019 by dbauman

There’s a lot of discussion surrounding whether airport parking lots are safe or not, As a student, taking that gamble can be a hard decision to make if your car is your main source of transportation. O’Hare parking is relatively safe, but there are certain things you can do to ensure that your car remains safe when it’s parked at the airport.

So, here’s what you can do to ensure that your car is safe when it is parked in the long-term parking lots:

1. Don’t Keep Any Valuables in Your Car

It’s not a big shock to learn that you shouldn’t be leaving valuables inside your vehicle when you leave it parked in a lot. This ensures that you don’t suffer when your car is vandalized or stolen. It’s important that you don’t leave money, gadgets, or jewelry in the car even if it’s secured and locked. But even leaving bags without valuables can cause someone to break in. Anything that looks like it could even hold something valuable, should be left at home.

2. Remove the Extra Key

You’ll be surprised to learn that a lot of students leave their spare keys somewhere in the car or on the vehicle itself. While this is mostly for their convenience if they get locked out of their car, thieves are also aware of this fact. Therefore, it’s not a smart idea to leave your extra key with the car when you’re leaving it parked at the long-term O’Hare parking lots. Instead, leave it with a family member, or close friend in case they need access to it.

3. Arrive Early at the Airport

Do yourself a favor and arrive early for your flight, as this will mean that you’re not rushing through important tasks like cleaning out the car, securing everything, and collecting your luggage. A lot of people tend to forget the simplest of things, like not locking their car doors when they’re in a hurry, and you can easily avoid that by arriving early.

4. Think Carefully about O’Hare Parking Options

Airports these days offer you with plenty of options for long-term parking, which includes outdoor and indoor parking lots. There are plenty of options for long-term O’Hare parking, and you can choose 24-hour security or economy parking lots. If you can’t decide what option is best for you, the Way.com airport parking app will provide you with a list of the best parking options at the airport.

5. Be Strategic About Your Parking Space

If you’re going to be parking at an outdoor lot, you should park your car near a light source, since car thieves are more likely to target cars that are parked in unattended and dark spots. If there are surveillance cameras installed in the parking lot, you should try to park in full view of the cameras for additional security.
