We take an evening to celebrate and share the work of the late poet and revolutionary.
Nikki Giovanni was a revolutionary poet and one of the most influential voices of the 1960s and ‘70s Black Art Movement. Her homegoing celebration in December marked the end of more than 50 years in which she wrote on topics ranging from Black Power, the importance of supporting young people, and the fundamental nature of love.
Come spend an evening celebrating Nikki’s life and work. We will hear her voice and share the impact she had on so many lives. Guests are encouraged to bring a piece of her work by which they have been inspired, to read from her poetry, or to share the impact that she had.
This event is cosponsored by the University of Notre Dame Initiative on Race and Resilience and the Poetry Den.
