The Indiana University student trustee helps shape the university’s future, and applications for the position are now open.
IU’s student trustee is a full member of the IU Board of Trustees and has the same rights and responsibilities as the other trustees.
While students can decide on their own whether to apply, a new option this year is a nomination process. Students, faculty or staff can fill out a nomination form to recommend a student they think should be considered for the role. The purpose is to spread awareness about the student trustee position and encourage students to consider pursuing it.
The student trustee works closely with IU’s leadership and has a multitude of duties:
Participating in at least four board meetings annually.
Serving on board committees.
Completing projects.
Participating in university functions and ceremonies.
Working with the All University Student Association.
Students interested in the two-year position must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at any IU campus and have enough time for all the responsibilities of the role. Full-time student status must be maintained through the two-year term.
Applications involve personal statements, a resume and at least one letter of recommendation. They can be submitted online or by mail.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. EST Jan. 3, 2025. Interviews will take place March 28 and 29, 2025. The names of 10 finalists will be forwarded to the governor, who will make the appointment. The term begins July 1, 2025, and ends June 30, 2027.
