Skype for Business to retire soon; get ready for Teams Calls
For telephone calling, we’ve used Skype for Business (formerly Lync) since 2012—but that’s soon to change. Microsoft will be phasing out Skype for Business as the product is at end-of-life.
In its place, later this spring, IU will move phone calling and messaging to Microsoft Teams.
The good news is we already have Microsoft Teams installed on our computers and many of you are already using Teams for video meetings and other functions.
How you can prepare for the transition
It’s a good idea to spend time getting more familiar with using Teams if you haven’t used it yet. Switch over to the Teams Chat (IM) instead of chatting in Skype for Business. Also try setting up a Teams Meeting or using Teams for impromptu video Meet Now calls, just the same as you can with Zoom.

The changeover is to happen in the coming months
Our IT Team is transitioning to Teams Calls and is learning the software. We’ll have lots more to share as the changeover date nears. Stay tuned!
