CURE recently released a new report examining the more than 9,200 properties that repeatedly have not received bids at Lake County Tax sales. Until now, no one has comprehensively examined these parcels to better understand their role in the redevelopment of Lake County.
Working with the Lake County Commissioners provides a unique opportunity to connect the data to research. Knowing the location of the properties for which there has been no demand is the absolute starting point for discussing what can be done by the government in conjunction with private parties to return this property to the collectible property tax rolls.
Chancellor Iwama points out that much of IU Northwest’s research is directly related to the community’s needs. The university focuses on providing research to the community to understand issues better. In the coming months, additional reports will be released that will provide information to the 20 major political units in the county to see if communities can benefit from taking action that will support economic redevelopment.
