With a recent Zoom update, we can allow students to choose which breakout room they want to join. Instructors could specify topics of discussion for breakout rooms and let students join those based on their interests. Similarly, students could join breakout rooms based on their role in a group project, the type of question they have, the class “poster presentation” they want to visit, etc. Students can also move freely between these breakout rooms.
Two important tips: First, all users have to have the latest version of Zoom to be able to move between rooms. Second, make sure everyone gets to practice with this new tool before a big event.
For more information on setting up breakout rooms, visit this article on the Zoom site, and see the video below for a quick walk-through of the tool.
