When quarantine started in March, I thought about throwing my beloved planner into the garbage. It seemed like plan after plan was cancelled and I was facing a wide-open schedule of nothing. (Cue chirping crickets and a tumbleweed blowing by.) However, as our world quickly transitioned online, it didn’t take long for many of our calendars to fill up with zoom meetings. Because of this, it can be difficult to attend an extra online event. Perhaps a CITL event catches your eye, but you check your calendar and “dang”—you already have an online class/friend meet-up/workout/your child’s online school/therapy/naptime planned for that hour.
Thankfully, we’ve recorded many of our CITL events and transitioned them to our Kaltura channel so that you can obtain this information asynchronously. You can use our recorded CITL events in many ways:
- watch a video of interest, then make a consultation with one of our consultants to discuss how you might apply the webinar’s ideas and/or tools to your course;
- make a plan with a colleague to view a recording and then meet over Zoom to discuss how this could work in your respective fields; or
- get comfy and watch one individually for when you’re facing a teaching slump and need some inspiration.
If you’re a graduate student, you can also use these recorded webinars to get credit towards the Graduate Teaching Apprenticeship Program (GTAP). GTAP is a three-level initiative that recognizes graduate students for the extra effort their making on their pedagogical development. In the first level, the Associate level, GTAP participants focus on discussing the basics of teaching and learning. They participate in multidisciplinary events, peer and faculty mentoring, self-assessment, and goal-setting. At the CITL, we recognized that COVID-schedules might make it difficult for people to attend our events, thus making it harder for them to complete the Associate level. However, you can now watch recorded webinars and complete a reflection exercise to complete the event requirements. Check out the GTAP Canvas page to learn more.
Have questions about how best to utilize our Kaltura content or want to talk through a video you watched? Email citl@indiana.edu to set up a one-on-one consultation. If you’re someone who wants to be part of the synchronous conversations, no worries—we still have plenty of live events too.
