Undergraduate Research Position – Behavioral Neurobiology Lab (Fernandez Lab), Indiana University Bloomington Biology Department
We are seeking motivated undergraduate students to join our lab in the Biology Department at Indiana University Bloomington. This position will initially involve technical work for one semester, with the potential to transition to a semi-independent research project throughout your undergraduate tenure at IU, depending on performance and interest. Our lab focuses on studying the neuronal circuits underlying sleep-wake cycles and sexually dimorphic behaviors in Drosophila. Among other techniques, we employ imagining, immunohistochemistry, and behavioral tests.
Position Overview:
- Responsibilities: Basic technical tasks, including preparing materials for behavioral experiments, autoclaving, animal husbandry, preparing and aliquoting solutions, possibility of learning immunohistochemistry in brains and other tissues.
- Disciplines: Ideal candidates will be majoring in Biology, Molecular Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Neuroscience, or related fields.
Qualifications:
- First- and second-year students are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Experience: Preference will be given to students who have completed at least one lab course.
- Attention to detail.
- Able to plan and organize time independently.
- Experience working with invertebrate models is a plus.
