Timmy Global Health at IU is hosting our annual Global Health Week! Global Health Week is a week-long advocacy/education event we host every year to educate our community about a certain Global Health topic. This year, Global Health Week will take place October 11 – 15 with a focus on Global Mental Health. Whether it be from the aftermath of a pandemic, the continued migrations of refugees and trauma survivors, or its growing prominence in pop culture/media, the conversation around mental health is constantly expanding. The goal of Global Health Week this year is to educate about (1) how mental health and its resources vary across different countries, cultures, and ages, (2) how the mental health of international trauma survivors affect their ability to acclimate to a new environment, (3) how the global pandemic shifted the conversation about mental health in the US, (4) how to become a better mental health advocate + deescalate a mental health crisis, and (5) how to best access and use mental health resources as an IU student.
