Dear Alumni and Friends,
We are excited to bring you the Fall 2022 edition of ChemConnections!
This fall we came back to campus and classrooms as normal as possible, and by and large, we completed all scheduled courses without major issues.
In the fall semester, our undergraduate enrollment fell compared to the previous year. We are planning increased recruitment activities and actively working on our connections with our local school systems. We welcomed 7 outstanding graduate students to the department, and they have hit the ground running.
By now, you may have heard about the restructuring of IUPUI, and the transition to becoming IU Indianapolis (IUI) in Fall 2024. The campus is working feverously to plan and execute this restructuring. Our Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department will remain intact and housed within the School of Science. We are excited by the new opportunities this transition will provide us as well as encouraged by the focus we are seeing from leadership and the State to expand and invest in science and technology on our campus.
Over the past several years, the Chemistry Department has received support from donors, friends, and alumni. Gifts to the department can have a profound impact on many areas, including providing student scholarships, hosting visiting scholars and lectures, and meeting critical needs. More than ever, we strive to support our students and our research efforts. There are many ways to support Chemistry – by mentoring a student, recruiting and hiring our graduates and through your continued generosity. If you’re interested in giving back, you may do so here.
You are at the heart of this department. We invite you to join us for events, visit us on campus and reach out to reconnect. We love hearing updates from our chemistry family! After all, this is your university and your department, and because of your success, we are successful. Please feel free to contact Kitty O’Doherty with updates at czinski@iupui.edu, connect with us on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter @ChemIUPUI.
I wish you and yours a very happy holiday and a wonderful 2023!
Sincerely,
Partha Basu
