Dear Friends,
We are excited to bring you the Fall 2021 edition of ChemConnections!
Last year, I wrote to you stating that we are teaching the courses virtually and welcome them via Zoom! This year, we started to go back to a more ‘normal’ semester. We welcome the students on campus and we are teaching in person, inside the classrooms. The semester is progressing well and we hope to complete as normal.
This Fall, our undergraduate enrollment fell as it did for other departments in the school, which is a concern. We welcomed 12 graduate students in the department. Our research laboratories are open and students are conducting research. The supply-chain remains an issue, so it is taking longer time to repair instruments or getting materials. Compared to the last year, this is so much better.
Over the past several years, the Chemistry Department has received several philanthropic gifts from generous donors, friends, and alumni. Gifts to the department can have a profound impact on many areas, including providing student scholarships, hosting visiting scholars and lectures, and meeting critical needs. More than ever, we are in need to support our students and efforts. There are many ways to support Chemistry. Please consider making a gift.
You are at the heart of this department. Please take part in it; after all, this is your university, and because of your success, IUPUI and the department are successful. Please feel free to reach out to Kitty O’Doherty with updates at czinski@iupui.edu or connect with us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter @ChemIUPUI.
Sincerely,
Partha Basu
Professor and Chair
